Sustainability & Responsibilities
At Seal International, we recognise the importance of ethical sourcing and environmental responsibility in the fibre and textile industry. Our approach to sustainability is rooted in transparency, traceability, and a commitment to working with suppliers who uphold the highest standards of animal welfare and land stewardship. We offer responsibly sourced and certified alpaca, mohair, wool, and cashmere, ensuring that all our natural fibres meet the needs of today’s industry while considering the impact on future generations
Sustainability
Ensuring our fibres are fully traceable and sustainable…
We ensure our fibres meet the highest sustainability standards by maintaining full traceability, sourcing raw materials through certified sustainable methods, and working closely with trusted partners across our supply chain.
Our policy is built on a commitment to animal welfare, adhering to the five freedoms as defined by the World Organisation for Animal Health. We actively support our supply chains at every stage, fostering long-term partnerships and improving operating conditions. Our responsibilities extend from sustainable industrial practices within our mill to providing customers with assurance in quality, traceability, and sustainability.
The purchase of Responsible Mohair Standard (RMS), Responsible Alpaca Standard (RAS), and Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) certified products demonstrates demand for better animal welfare practices and responsible land management in the mohair fibre supply chain.
Seal International is a member of the Sustainable Fibre Alliance (SFA), supporting responsible cashmere production that upholds high environmental, animal welfare, and social standards. Our ‘SFA Certified’ cashmere is sourced from ‘SFA Certified’ producers and processors, ensuring sustainability and traceability throughout the supply chain.
These globally recognised certifications reinforce our commitment to animal welfare and environmental sustainability, setting the standard for responsible and sustainable fibres production.
Animal Welfare – The five freedoms are upheld at all times, in line with the global standards and best practice for animal care.
Land Management – Sustainable land management practices are implanted on farms to protect soil health, biodiversity, and native species.
Chain of Custody – Certification guarantees the fibre’s traceability, maintaining its integrity from farm to finished product.
Environment
Ensuring our processes use the cleanest technologies…
We fully support and comply with, or exceed, current environmental legislation and codes of practice, including ISO14001 for waste and energy management.
Across our mill and manufacturing processes, we actively minimise environmental impact by optimising energy use, selecting clean technologies, and implementing waste management practices that reduce the consumption of non-renewable resources.
Our environmental objectives reflect our commitment to:
· Comply with or exceed applicable environmental legislation and best practices across all business processes.
· Minimise energy and water consumption to conserve resources.
· Evaluate the environmental impact of new processes or products before implementation.
· Prioritise energy-saving technologies in new equipment purchases.
· Monitor business travel and consider teleconferencing alternatives.
· Engage employees in environmental awareness and participation.
· Continuously improve efforts to reduce air, water, noise, and light pollution.
· Use electronic communications to reduce paper consumption.
· Minimise single-use plastics and eliminate them wherever possible.
