Recognising Fibre Excellence at the Source: The 2026 Mohair Excellence Awards
Exceptional textiles begin with exceptional fibres.
The 2026 Mohair Excellence Awards provided an opportunity to celebrate the farmers, expertise and dedication behind one of the world’s most valued natural fibres.
Organised by Mohair South Africa, the awards recognise producers who demonstrate outstanding standards in super kid mohair production. They highlight the skill and attention to detail required to consistently achieve fibre of exceptional quality and reinforce South Africa’s position as a global leader in premium mohair.
This year, 21 entries were submitted from across the country, with 10 finalists selected following an independent judging process. The entries were assessed across a comprehensive range of characteristics, including fibre fineness, length, uniformity, clean yield, handle, style and overall natural appearance.
For Seal International, the awards represent an important reminder of the expertise and commitment that exists at the very beginning of the textile supply chain.
The Importance of Fibre Quality
As an international natural fibre business, Seal International understands that quality starts at source.
The characteristics of a fibre influence every stage that follows, from processing and spinning through to the creation of luxury fabrics and finished garments. Consistency, technical knowledge and careful selection all play an important role in ensuring that natural fibres continue to meet the expectations of the world’s leading textile manufacturers and luxury brands.
Mohair is valued globally for its unique combination of softness, strength, lustre and versatility. Maintaining these qualities depends on the dedication of producers who understand the importance of careful farming practices, fibre management and quality standards.
The Mohair Excellence Awards shine a spotlight on these producers and celebrate the expertise behind the fibre.
A Shared Commitment Across the SIL Group
As part of The SIL Group, Seal International works alongside businesses operating across different areas of the textile supply chain. William Halstead, a specialist weaver of luxury mohair and wool fabrics, supported this year’s awards by providing premium suiting cloth for the winners.
Together, these contributions reflect a shared appreciation for the craftsmanship and expertise that define the textile industry—from the production of outstanding natural fibres through to the creation of premium fabrics.
Seal International is proud to recognise the farmers and industry partners who help maintain the quality and reputation of natural fibres worldwide, and we congratulate all finalists and winners of the 2026 Mohair Excellence Awards.
