At today’s final sale of the summer season there were 1079 bales offered and 923 (86%) were sold under strong competition. The SAR was 3% stronger, on top of which the market was mainly firm.

Fine Adult down 4% in SAR down 1% in USD.
Strong Adult down 3% in SAR firm in USD.

At today’s (6th) sale of the summer season 130 tons offered with 85% sold under strong competition. SA Rand was 2% stronger than the previous sale which added to the strength of the market.

Fine Adult unchanged in SAR up 2% in USD.
Strong Adult down 5% in SAR down 3% in USD.
The next sale 7th June is the last of the season. The winter sales will open 16th August.

At today’s Cape sale there was very good demand despite global events. It appears that some areas of fashion are slipping but traditional users remain strong.

At the Cape sale 12 April 2022 there was 151 tons offered of which 94% was sold under strong competition. Prices in local currency were down 2-4%, however in USD prices were firm.

Fine Adult down 5% in SAR, down 2% in USD.
Strong Adult down 1% in SAR, up 2% in USD.

At the Cape Sale on Tuesday 22nd March there was 170 Tons on offer. Due to the size of the sale and the keen bidding the sale was extended over 2 days (hence the delayed report). Prices were generally 2-3% dearer in local currency, however the SA rand has strengthened by 3.5% due to the strength of its gold reserves in times of conflict, meaning USD prices were 5% dearer.
Kids up 5%.
YG up 5%.
Fine adult up 2-5%.
Strong adult up 5%.

At today’s Cape sale there was strong competition for all types with prices rising 5-10% across the board for the second sale in a row. As we try to support our agents and customers we are using our stock position to keep prices as low as possible. We have not passed on any increases from today’s sale.

At the first sale of the summer season, there was very strong competition over all types, especially the coarser lots, which are in short supply. Prices were up 3-5% in local currency but up to 10% dearer in USD.

At today’s final sale of the winter season, there were 82 tons on offer with a healthy 99% clearance. The market indicator for the 2021 winter season was SAR 395, some 65% higher than the 2020 winter season.

At today’s Cape Sale there was 87 tons on offer and 96% sold under good competition. It appears the mohair fashion will last another year.

At Monday’s Basuto sale there was extreme competition and prices rose across the board. Supply is small and availability limited as the clip lasts from August to November.
At Tuesday’s Cape sale (started Monday as it was a large offering) there was good demand for all RMS types. The market is starting to correct itself. Clearance was an excellent 92% of the 150 tonnes offered. Prices in USD terms were:
